Winning the toss, Henley elected to bat first on a challenging wicket that was only going to get worse. Early pressure told as Ram was dismissed for 14, leaving Henley with work to do. Atharv Gupta then anchored the innings superbly, combining with Laurie Tate (13) to steady the ship.
Gupta showed excellent composure and stroke play, compiling a brilliant 67 in testing conditions. He was ably supported by Toby Osman and Andy Taylor, while late contributions from Olivia Parr (17) and Sean Taylor (25) added valuable momentum. A good performance from the Henley team who ended 185-9 in their alloted 40 overs. For Maidenhead & Bray, Athaley impressed with figures of 3 for 19 as did Max Brown 2-29 in a good all-round bowling display.
Henley’s bowlers made an ideal start with Joe Raymond and Aakansh Naik striking early to reduce the hosts to 25 for 2. A run out and a wicket for Fletcher Bramley soon left Maidenhead struggling at 38 for 4.
At this stage, Nick Denning entered the fray and began to counter-attack with authority. He was then joined by skipper Garth Hinkel with the game in the balance and 2 strong batter at the crease. However, Hinkel's stay was short-lived as Henley captain Taylor produced a sharp caught-and-bowled to dismiss him — a crucial breakthrough that kept the pressure firmly on the hosts.
Denning, however, continued to play freely, crafting an outstanding 80 from just 68 balls and threatening to turn the game. Taylor and Gupta bowled well together trying to pick off wickets before Denning could lead M&B home.
With Maidenhead & Bray nine wickets down and needing just 15 runs to win, Gupta delivered the decisive blow, clean bowling Denning to seal a dramatic 14-run victory for Henley.
