Henley 4th XI travelled to Aldershot on Saturday and delivered a composed all-round performance to secure a convincing win — led by a team made up of nine players under the age of 15.
After losing the toss, Henley were asked to bowl and faced an early onslaught as Aldershot’s openers raced to a 50-run stand. But Henley’s bowlers fought back with Peach and Ellison making key breakthroughs to spark a steady fall of wickets. Despite one Aldershot batter passing 50, he was caught by Olivia Parr off the bowling of Naik as Henley regained control.
Aldershot were well set at 150–5, but Henley’s attack rallied, and with the score on 173–8, Naik and Atwal combined to produced a dramatic team hat-trick — three wickets in three balls — to end the innings. Peach finished with standout figures of 4–33, and Nake claimed 2–2 in his late spell.
Chasing 174, Henley’s young side started brightly with openers Bowlby (33) and Ellison (34) putting on 70 for the first wicket. However, a sudden collapse saw the team slip to 78–4. Undeterred, skipper Atwell (50*), in partnership with Joshua Ellison (21*), steadied the ship and guided Henley to victory with an unbroken 96-run stand.
A superb team effort from a youthful Henley side, showing maturity beyond their years to complete a memorable win on the road.
