A superb eighth-wicket partnership between Dyer and Hanna rescued Henley 3rd XI from a difficult position, but Shinfield ultimately proved too strong with the bat as they chased 213 to win by five wickets at Nettlebed.

Henley won the toss and elected to bat but were immediately put under pressure when Loveland fell for four with only eight on the board.

Captain Mani Atwal counter-attacked effectively, striking four fours and a six in his 27 from 39 balls, but his dismissal left Henley 36-2.

Mehar Ali and Haider-Ali Baig then steadied the innings. Ali worked patiently for his 26 from 57 balls while Baig made 22, and together they took the score to 86 before the innings suddenly began to unravel.

Baig was lbw to Bharambe and Ali followed just one run later. Aarian Atwal made nine and Kock eight, but both departed as Henley slipped from 86-2 to 105-6.

When Price was stumped for four at 118-7, Henley were in real danger of being dismissed well short of a competitive total.

Dyer and Hanna had other ideas.

The pair initially concentrated on rebuilding the innings before gradually becoming more adventurous as their partnership developed. Their stand added a vital 81 runs and transformed the complexion of the innings.

Dyer led the recovery with an excellent 47 from 52 balls, including three fours and a six, while Hanna provided tremendous support and ensured Henley were able to bat through their full allocation.

Dyer was eventually bowled with the score on 199, narrowly missing a deserved half-century, but Hanna remained unbeaten on 39 from 51 deliveries. Rice then provided a useful late flourish, striking eight not out from only three balls as Henley finished on a respectable 212-8 from their 45 overs.

Shinfield's Bharambe was the outstanding bowler, taking 4-25 from nine overs, including four maidens.

Henley needed early wickets and Taimoor-Ali Baig gave them an economical start, conceding just 14 runs from his five overs and bowling two maidens.

Shinfield nevertheless progressed steadily through Bhavsar and Sharma before Henley suddenly found a way back into the contest.

Price trapped Sharma lbw for 16 before Mehar Ali bowled Bhavsar for 56. Price then struck again to remove Gurung without scoring and, when Ali dismissed Bharambe for nine, Shinfield had slipped to 102-4.

Having been comfortably placed earlier in the chase, the visitors were suddenly under some pressure.

Unfortunately for Henley, Basu and Katuri then produced the decisive partnership.

Basu anchored the innings while Katuri attacked, the pair adding 103 for the fifth wicket and effectively taking the game away from Henley.

Katuri struck five sixes in his 58 from 43 deliveries before Aarian Atwal finally had him caught by Hanna with victory almost secured.

Basu remained unbeaten on 65 from 52 balls, an innings containing seven fours and four sixes, as Shinfield reached 213-5 in 32.4 overs to complete a five-wicket victory.

Price and Mehar Ali were the pick of the Henley bowlers with two wickets apiece, while Aarian Atwal finished with 1-8 from his two overs.

Although ultimately beaten, Henley could take encouragement from the character shown in both innings. Their recovery from 118-7 to 212-8 through Dyer and Hanna gave them a total to defend, while reducing Shinfield to 102-4 briefly opened the door to an unlikely comeback.

Henley collected nine league points from the game, including five batting and four bowling bonus points.
