Henley 3rd XI produced one of their most complete performances of the season to secure an emphatic 69-run victory over Thatcham Town 2nd XI in Thames Valley Cricket League Division 5A.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Henley made a positive start through Mani Atwal (23) before Oliver Snook took control of the innings with a superb counter-attacking knock. Snook smashed 78 from just 62 deliveries, striking seven fours and five sixes, to put the visitors firmly on the back foot and provide the backbone of Henley's innings.
He was well supported by Mehar Ali (33), who helped maintain the momentum through the middle overs, while Francesca Clarke (22) and useful contributions from the lower order ensured Henley continued to add valuable runs late in the innings. Their efforts saw Henley post an imposing 239 all out from 44.3 overs, setting Thatcham a challenging target.
Henley's bowlers then produced a disciplined display to put the game beyond doubt. Early wickets left Thatcham struggling at 13-3, and although the visitors briefly threatened to rebuild, Henley maintained relentless pressure with both ball and in the field.
Mehar Ali completed an outstanding all-round performance, leading the attack with 3-29 from his nine overs. He was superbly supported by Liam Hanna (2-28) and Francesca Clarke (2-29), while Taimoor-Ali Baig, Rowan Garfath-Nebbett and Aarian Atwal each claimed a wicket to ensure Henley never allowed Thatcham to gain any sustained momentum.
Thatcham were eventually dismissed for 170 in 36.3 overs, giving Henley a deserved 69-run victory and 23 valuable league points. It was an excellent team performance, combining aggressive batting, disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, and one that will give the side plenty of confidence heading into next week's fixture.
