Henley 3rd XI faced a tough assignment at Nettlebed as one of the youngest sides in the division took on an experienced Earley 1st XI. Although the visitors eventually claimed victory by 147 runs, the final score did not tell the full story of a contest in which Henley's young side showed plenty of character, particularly with the ball.

After Earley won the toss and elected to bat, Henley made an outstanding start. Rice struck early to remove Dara before Clarke ripped through the top order with three excellent wickets, leaving the visitors struggling at 40-4. At that stage Henley had the experienced Earley side firmly on the back foot and looked capable of restricting them to a much lower total.

Unfortunately, several dropped catches proved costly as Earley's middle order rebuilt the innings. Rana took full advantage, compiling an excellent 74, while Machupalli added a quickfire 44 as the visitors recovered to post 235 all out from 43.4 overs. Despite the recovery, Henley never stopped competing. Clarke finished with impressive figures of 3-23, while Rice also claimed two wickets and Atwal picked up three as the bowlers continued to create opportunities throughout the innings.

Chasing a demanding target, Henley needed a strong start but found themselves under pressure from a disciplined Earley attack. Atwal and Baig both looked positive at the crease, while Price battled hard and Clarke remained unbeaten at the close. However, regular wickets prevented any meaningful partnerships from developing and Henley were eventually dismissed for 88.

While the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positives to take away. Against a strong and experienced Earley side, Henley's young team competed with determination and skill. The opening spell with the ball showed exactly what this developing group is capable of, and on another day, with a few more catches safely held, the game could have unfolded very differently. Performances like this continue to provide valuable experience for one of the youngest teams in the league and underline the exciting potential within the squad.
