Henley 2nd XI produced an excellent all-round performance to defeat Uxbridge by 80 runs at The Brakspear Ground.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Uxbridge initially found Henley’s top order difficult to dislodge. Seward and Mordt gave the hosts a solid start, putting on 45 for the first wicket before Seward was dismissed for 25.

Mordt made a patient 23, while Borst and Desai then built the platform for a competitive total. Borst struck six boundaries in his 43, with Desai going on to top-score with 47 from 74 deliveries.

Edberg added a brisk 18 before Biddulph provided valuable late impetus, hitting two fours in a lively 26 from just 21 balls. Bowles finished unbeaten on seven as Henley closed on 220 for nine from their 52 overs.

Mavuta was the most successful Uxbridge bowler, taking four for 78, while Kerr claimed two for 31 from his 12 overs.

Uxbridge’s reply was soon in trouble as Seward removed Kazim and Pragji to leave the visitors 20 for two. Sharma and Chowdhury briefly steadied the innings, but Seward struck again to dismiss Chowdhury for 34 and end a promising partnership.

Sharma continued to resist and moved to 49, but Wheeler trapped him lbw one short of his half-century. His departure left Uxbridge 92 for four and opened the door for Henley to take control.

Seward completed an outstanding five-wicket haul by removing Hussain and Vigar, finishing with figures of five for 40 from 12 overs. Bowles then claimed two wickets in quick succession, with Mordt and Ali holding the catches, before Desai completed the victory with a caught-and-bowled dismissal.

Uxbridge were bowled out for 140 in 34 overs, with Wheeler taking two for 19 and Bowles two for 24 in support of Seward’s match-winning spell.

The comprehensive 80-run victory earned Henley 26 points and capped an impressive team performance with both bat and ball.
