In a one-sided Thames Valley Cricket League Division 1 encounter,Reading CC 1st XI secured a commanding win over Henley CC 2nd XI, chasing down a target of 56 at The Home of cricket.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Henley CC never really got going losing wickets regularly, Sahil Desai being the top scorer 13 .Reading CC bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, keeping the Henley batting lineup on a tight leash with a spin heavy bowling attack on turf that was turning too much for the Henley 2s batsmen.
Reading CCs stand out performer Moin Khowaja, who dismantled Henley’s top and lower order with a stunning spell of 7 wickets. Dylan Wood also chipped in with 2 wickets, including a key breakthrough to halt Henley’s momentum
In reply, Reading started off aggressively, putting the pressure back on the Henley bowlers going at run a ball for the first 6 overs. Henley mirrored Reading’s strategy of starting with spin from one end , however this proved less effective than it did for Reading CC with only one wicket falling – that of Pav Chima for 23– but with Henley managing just 56 runs in 30.2 overs. Jack Biddulph was the sole wicket-taker for Henley CC, finishing with figures of 4-1-18-1
