Great performance from young team

Henley 2nd XI made the trip to face a strong Ickenham 1st XI, currently sitting third in the league. Losing the toss, Henley were asked to bat — a decision suggesting Ickenham fancied chasing on their home turf.

Openers Ajmal Safi and Charlie Hunt provided a steady start before Safi was adjudged LBW to Ethan Slee for 12. Skipper Euan Brock joined Hunt but soon chipped a catch off the bowling of Ricky Small-Boyce, leaving Henley 27–2.

Sahil Desai arrived at the crease and built patiently alongside Hunt, who was looking in good touch. Hunt fell for 33 to Mac Jenkins, but Sahil continued to anchor the innings. Jago Edsburg joined him, offering valuable support and taking the score past 100 before departing.

This brought Will Hammersley to the middle, and he and Sahil put on a crucial 103-run partnership. Hammersley played an aggressive knock of 57 off just 43 balls including 4 big sixes, before being caught in the deep, while Sahil’s outstanding innings ended on 85, caught on the boundary while pushing for late runs.
In the final overs, Tom Wellings added a quick-fire 18, and small contributions from the lower order took Henley to a competitive total of 245–9 from 52 overs.

Pick of the bowlers for Ickenham were Ricky Small-Boys – 4/40 and Mac Jenkins – 3/56.

Henley opened the bowling with youth and energy — 14-year-old Taimour-Ali Baig alongside Tom Wellings, with a combined age of just 30. It was Baig who struck first, removing Ickenham skipper Evans for 2, caught by Jago Edsburg. Wellings then made a double breakthrough, reducing Ickenham to a precarious 14–3 after just four overs.
A brief recovery came through Mac Jenkins and Jash Gandhi, but Gandhi fell LBW to Brock for 32. Wicketkeeper Marner played an attacking cameo of 22 off 15 balls before Brock struck again.
While Jenkins held one end together with a measured unbeaten 74, wickets tumbled at the other. Henley’s fielding effort included a sharp run-out from Hunt, and Wellings returned at the death to claim two more scalps.

The match ended with two quick dismissals — an LBW to Wellings and Brock bowling Slee — as Ickenham were bowled out for 155.

Pick of the bowlers were Tom Wellings – 4/34 and captain Euan Brock (making his 300th appearance for Henley) 4/54.

A great all round performance from a very young team.
