On a day that seemed destined to be dominated by news of rain, Henley managed to beat the showers, and Great Brickhill to secure an important victory on a day that only 1 other match in the league was completed.
With heavy showers around and expected disruption later in the day, Adam Searle won the toss and chose to bowl, which soon proved to be the correct decision, as Henley had Great Brickhill 46-5 in the 11th over. Henley CC continued to ‘Bring the Storm’ to Great Brickhill, dismissing them for 91 in just 27.2 overs, with Harry Jordan finishing with 4 wickets to his name.
Henley’s chase started poorly as the clouds drew in, with Johnny Connell bowled for 0 with the first ball of the innings, and at 11-1 when heavy rain arrived, it seemed that all of Henley’s early success would go to waste.
After a lengthy break for heavy rain, and some sterling efforts with the covers from the Henley lads, the sun finally shone on the visitors, and Henley were able to continue their chase, with a now reduced target of 69 off 28 overs. With more showers forecast, it was important that the Henley batters finished the chase off as quickly as possible, a prompt that Matt Dalrymple and Charlie Dunnett didn’t need to be told twice. The pair put on 60 in just 24 balls after the rain delay, with some thunderous hitting, to make sure henley were home and dry before the next wave of rain. Dalrymple ended on 45* off just 22 balls, and Dunnett 23* off 28.
This was an important win for Henley, that moves them up to 5th in the table, and with 3/5 games abandoned with no result, allowed for some good movement up the table.
Henley move into the red ball part of the season next week, at home to Oxford Downs, where they will look to take this momentum forward
