Match report by Dylan Thomas
The Henley CC U13 Leopards produced an all-round team performance to beat Emmbrook & Bearwood by 18 runs, with every player contributing to an excellent victory.
Led by captain Alexander Jewell, Henley batted first and posted an impressive 141 for 4. Matthew Bollinghaus top-scored with an excellent 27 from 25 balls, including five boundaries, while Alastair Taylor added an inventive 21. Jax McKinnon finished unbeaten on 13 from 22 balls, with Toby Wood unbeaten on 12 from just nine deliveries. Wilf Oseman also contributed a useful 10, while Henley’s innings was boosted by 51 extras.
With 142 required, the Leopards bowled and fielded with energy. Archie Thomas produced a “platinum duck” wicket, getting Henley off to a flying start. Matthew Bollinghaus was outstanding in mopping up the tail, taking 3 wickets for just 3 runs from 1.4 overs. Aadi Bhatt, Alex Jewell, George Hollins and Toby Wood also chipped in with wickets as Henley kept the pressure on.
Henley’s fielding was positive throughout, with the boys encouraging each other and staying alert on a stifling hot evening - although at times they could have protected the boundary better - much to the frustration of the parents watching and willing them on!
Emmbrook & Bearwood were eventually all out for 123, giving Henley a well-earned 18-run victory.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Lizzie Oseman, whose well-timed delivery of ice lollipops provided a crucial energy boost for the boys.
Finally, it was a particularly special day for Jax McKinnon, making his last appearance before heading off on a year of travelling. He signed off with an unbeaten 13 and another great team contribution. Jax will be hugely missed, and everyone wishes him an amazing adventure. Andrew presented him with a special unofficial "Manager's Award" of a Henley CC baseball cap to mark his departure.
A brilliant team performance, great captaincy from Alex, some outstanding individual moments — and a very memorable way for Jax to sign off.
Well played, Leopards! ??
