Peppard hold their catches but Cougars hold their nerve

Match report by George Jewell

Following a defeat to Reading mid week the Cougars were keen to return to winning ways on a lovely sunny morning at Prestcold CC and having won the toss decided to bat. In the top order Alastair Taylor continued his recent good form supported by Harry Ellison, who was unlucky to pick out the fielder at deep square leg. Miles Pickford, Fynn Ellison and Ollie Jones took the innings on with all batters contributing, though the latter's family bragging rights sit firmly with his sister Lily who, after being pulled for four, bowled her brother.

Peppard's fielding kept them in the game in the face of the onslaught from the Cougars with both Crawford and Franklin each taking two catches as part of an almost faultless display. At drinks 156 was clearly a strong score, containing as it did an eye watering 54 extras.

The Cougars then turned in a tidy bowling performance which saw Peppard regularly lose wickets to close on 89/9 off their 20 overs. Jack Starmer-Smith bowled the final over which was eventful with a run out, and two wickets to seal the win, all while conceding just the one run.

In contrast to Peppard the Cougars conceded a reasonably modest 28 extras, showing again how important it is to support the bowler and to back one another up in the field. An excellent game played in a spirit of encouragement between two team who know one another well. We look forward to the return fixture next Sunday.
