As has been the flavour for July, rain took its toll on yet another day's cricket. Despite the damper on proceedings, the Henley side of Saee, Polly, Eloise, Aanika & (debutant)Zene or Henley SPEARZ (as they will be now known) managed to close out the afternoon with another win, this time against Elmbrook. Team Skipper, Aanika won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the opposition in to bat with the darker clouds and strong bowling attack the key elements for the decision. Rosie and Polly opened the bowling keeping the score. This was well backed up by the first change of bowlers with Eloise taking a key wicket and supported by Aanika. Saee followed this up with her new seam bowling credentials with 1 for 3 in her over. The second half of the innings saw Rosie taking 2 wickets in her second over. Eloise, Polly and Aanika also improved their line and finished strongly to restrict Elmbrook to 252 from their 9 overs. Henley's inning went off to a flier with Eloise and Polly stroke playing the ball to all areas of the pitch with boundaries and a six to boot. Aanika and Saee showed great maturity keeping the scoreboard ticking with some excellent shots. Rosie and Zene closed out the innings to give Henley SPEARZ a well deserved victory. Sadly rain interrupted the 2nd game and with not enough overs bowled were unable to apply Duckworth and Lewis before the heavens properly open with the rest of the day's play abandoned.
