On Saturday afternoon in scorching conditions, Henley CC girls u15 side took on Slough CC in the Berkshire Cup Final. Henley has enjoyed a fantastic season finishing as runners up in the league, paving their way to the final. Slough posed very stiff competition, having made it to the National Final the previous week at Lords.
Henley won the toss and elected to bat. It was an incredibly warm afternoon at Slough and the girls did remarkably well to get to 111/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Mary Briscoe top scored, retiring not out once she passed the half century mark. Sophia Dowsett supported her admirably, striking her way to a neat 33 before being unfortunately run out
Slough batted superbly in reply and chased down the target in the 18th over. Their opening batter Shristri Patil scored an unbeaten 50. She is the rising star of female cricket and is a name which will likely feature at national level in the future. Henley bowled bravely and fielded solidly but the win was just beyond reach. Nonetheless it ends a very successful and more importantly, highly enjoyable and entertaining season.
