Women & Girls
Nearly 50 girls and women enjoyed playing cricket for Henley CC in 2016 which is a long way from the 2 or 3 girls we started with in 2012! We are proud to have become one of the leading clubs in Berkshire for Women and Girls Cricket.
We hope our growing numbers speak volumes about the fun and enjoyment our girls and women have playing at Henley, whether they are aiming to play at county level or just want a fun way to keep fit while playing a team game in a warm and friendly environment.
We are an inclusive club who believe that every girl or woman who wants to play in matches should be given the opportunity to do so.
Our junior girls participate in the Berkshire Youth Cricket League, Lady Taverners National Competitions and play a number of friendlies throughout the season. Junior ages range from 7 to 15 and we enter teams in U11, U12, U13, U14, U15 & U16 competitions.
2016 saw our newly formed women’s team finish runners up in the Thames Valley Ladies League in our first competitive season. Players range in age from 15 to ‘uh hum’! Our women’s team currently comprises of teens who have moved up through the age groups since 2012, mums who enjoy playing with their daughters, ex-cricketers who are looking for a fun and relaxed way to return to cricket as well as complete beginners of all ages. There is no requirement to be super fit or sporty, the priority is to enjoy cricket at whatever level you are comfortable with whether it be opening the bowling, batting at No.1 or just being a rotating fielder!
We kicked off our 2016 season in style with a special coaching session from England Legend Lydia Greenway. The girls were clearly inspired and a fantastic season followed.
2016 saw Henley our U12 Lionesses crowned county champions and our U12 Tigresses win the Silver Division. Our U15’s had a great season finishing equal first in the league and only missed out on the title by run rate!
When we Train/Play Matches
Pre-Season Training begins at Shiplake College from Saturday 21st January 2017 between 2:45pm and 4:15pm.
Summer Training commences on Saturday April 22nd at Gillotts School, 9am to 10:30am and runs every Saturday until the end of August.
Matches are played between late April and August. Players are notified of fixtures well in advance but the British weather sometimes forces fixtures to be rescheduled!
We are extremely fortunate to have a fantastic coaching team led by an experienced team of ECB qualified coaches. We ensure the ratio of players to coaches is appropriate so that everyone gets the most out of their sessions.
Please come and join us!
The more players we have, the more matches we can play! We actively encourage all new girls and women to come along and try a session or two, from complete beginners to experienced county players. No equipment is necessary as we can provide everything you need. If you’d like more information on how things work please drop us a line or give us a call. You can find telephone numbers and e-mails under contacts on the side menu.
