| Oxford Calling |
Another home game and another key top of the table clash is in prospect this Saturday (11am) as Oxford, joint leaders along with Henley and Welwyn in Division 1 of the HCPCL are the visitors to the Brakspear Ground.
As forecast at the beginning of the season, Oxford who are led by a motivated and able skipper in Jason Harrison have turned things around from a dismal 2009 season and are very much in the mix for the 2010 Championship. This owes much to regular and strong batting performances throughout the team notably, but not exclusively from Ferraby, Laudat, Crosby and Perkin, and also some excellent bowling performances by Stuart Hole whose 6-43 v Tring Park and 7-24 v Harpenden proved decisive. Hole has also done some good things with the bat and Ferraby popped up with 5-77 against Radlett.
So, all round strength in depth and form rather than any dramatic changes in personnel are very much the keys to Oxford’s resurgent challenge this year. The earlier encounter this season at Cowley was rained off before Henley had a chance to bat and this encounter will be every bit as tough as Welwyn. If anything Oxford are likely to play with far more guile.
Henley are likely to name an unchanged side.
