Commentary
A magnificent 150 not out from James Knight provided the centrepiece for an emphatic victory for Henley 4th X1 over Maidenhead and Bray 4th X1 on Saturday.
Opening batsmen Tom Chappell and Mark Thomas battled hard against a lively pace attack but at 46 for 2 there was little indication of the batting feast that was to follow. Knight, in partnership with Sam Ranger started slowly but then increasingly dominated the Maidenhead bowling as they hammered a record unbroken partnership of 216 for the 4ths with Ranger the junior partner but nevertheless finishing with a maiden half-century.
262 was never going to be an easy target to chase on a dry pitch that was showing signs of wear but despite a fine opening spell and 2 wickets from Nathan Hopkins Maidenhead and Bray reached 140 for 3 after only 25 overs. Jonny Adams bowled tidily in his first league match for Henley but it took the experienced Peter Head and Chris Johnson to pin the run rate back and when Tom Chappell bowled the hard-hitting Murtaza for 86, victory and a maximum 25 points was soon to follow.
